Sports medicine is an academic multi-faceted medical specialty which involves the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of sports injuries in individuals that participate in sports. According to official terminology, sports medicine is subsequently the medical field which centers on the prevention of chronic diseases caused by a sedentary way of life, as well as specific issues pertaining to athletes' health, for example the use of illegal substances (doping).
