The knee was the first joint on which arthroscopic surgery was applied, initially for diagnosis and later for the treatment of lesions. It is currently used in cases of ruptures of the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments, meniscal tears, patellar dislocations, cartilage ruptures which fragments lay loose in the joint, popliteal cysts, fractures, or even in cases of synovial membrane enlargement. Since it is a low-risk procedure, the post-operative course is good for most patients. The return time depends on the extent of joint damage and the complexity of the surgical procedure.
